Scheepvaart Museum
The present home of the Dutch Maritime Museum is what used
to be the arsenal of the Netherlands Navy back in the 18th
century. The National Naval Depot is the location of one
of the most important sights in Amsterdam, due to its rich
historical charge.
The Dutch Maritime Museum gathers a remarkable collection
of maps, models and displays of real-sized ships including
the VOC ship and creates the illusion of reality having
actors play the sailors on the ships. Tourists are offered
the chance to visit Amsterdam Ordnance Datum and get a better
image of how things must have looked like in middle age
Amsterdam and how commerce was made back then. The Netherlands
Maritime Museum also brings some of the flavor of the colonies
and the countries overseas.
The Netherlands maritime Museum is open from Tuesday to
Saturday between 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. Guests coming
from mid-June to mid-September can also visit it on Mondays.
On New Year's Day (January, 1st) and on Queen's Day (April,
30th), Netherlands Maritime Museum is closed.
The fee you must pay for visiting the Netherlands Maritime
Museum is 7.00€ for adults and 4.00€ for children
aged 6 to 17 years old.
