Vondelpark is a 45-hectare ooze of nature in the middle of
a vivid city. Initially, meant to resemble an English landscape,
Vondelpark has become with the years one of the most important
Dutch symbols and the most famous park in Holland. The park
hosts the statue of the renowned Dutch poet, Joost van den
Vondel, the one lending his name to this beautiful sight since
1867. You will never find yourself alone in Vondelpark, as
many people find it the perfect shelter away from daily stress
and agitation, no matter what they choose to do. If want to
visit it and maybe even spend the whole day here, don't worry
about getting bored. Take your kids with you, if you have
any, or come alone and you'll want to come again! You can
watch your kids play in one of the six play areas, where they
can skate (and rent skates), put on shows or watch children
movies. Then, you can take them eat some delicious pancakes
near the playground and, why not, have some for yourself.
Your fun is ensured by open-air concerts, especially charming
in the summer time when hosted at the Vondelpark bandstand,
or by the Film Museum. Go and check out the poet's statue
and the cast iron music dome and then listen to some good
music, in summer months, at the Open Air Theatre. You have
charge free entrance and five days a week shows with great
music matching your taste.
The park is the favorite fun for many tourists and Dutch
people, as well. There are some who come here just to take
a healthy walk, to take their dog to play or to practice sports
for the pleasure of it. Others would rather just lounge in
the sun with their feet in the grass. Vondelpark is just like
a therapy, the nearest contact to nature and the real thing,
which makes it so popular after all.
