Anyone tried Absinthe in Amsterdam? Its supposed to be legal. Is this a tourist trap or worth a try?

There are places that sell Absinthe in Amsterdam. I think that this is just a tourist trap and you will not see flying pixies if you drink it.

I have had Absinthe in Amsterdam as well as in British Colombia, Canada. I researched it a bit and found that the wormwood (the psychoactive ingredient) levels are higher in the Absinthe in Holland than in Canada. A friend of mine and I drank an entire bottle (0.75L) of the stuff in BC, which was 140 proof, and I must say we got a little more giggly than normal for how intoxicated (with alcohol) we were, but there were absolutely no hallucinations. I tried some in Holland at a bar (which was quite expensive -- if I remember correctly it was 10 euro per drink). I had about 3 drinks and again felt a little more than just an alcohol high (a little laughy, and more relaxed than normal) but for the price I could have bought a bottle of liquor and some mushrooms from one of the smartshops and had a much more psychedelic experience. I wouldn't recommend spending too much cash trying to see some pixies flying around by drinking absinthe; if you want to hallucinate and have a nice spiritual experience try some of the mushrooms that are available in smartshops throughout Amsterdam.

  5. My friends told me about this story in Amsterdam as well
