Is it legal and decent to smoke weed on the streets of Amsterdam or in clubs/bars?
I always dreamed on smoking freely on the streets. -
No Matty. Its nor legal or moral/decent. You will get a fine. There are children and parents there that do not want to see you smoke on the streets. The amsterdamers are very tolerant but the tourists should not push the limit. You can not smoke in bars, if you do you will probably get kicked out!
Smoke only in coffeeshops, hotel rooms if they allow smoking. If you want to smoke freely there is one canal cruise where you can smoke outdoors and see the beautiful city. -
You can smoke on the streets if you are careful, much like you can in the uk.
Is it frowned upon if you buy weed in one coffee house and then smoke it in another? Obviously I would purchase a drink or food in the next coffee house, but want to know if owners are cool about it.

If you plan to smoke weed taken from other places into another coffeshopp then you must order at least some drinks from there. I've smoked plenty of times weed from Grey Area (my favourite) into other places like the BullDog or LaCanna. Just do some consummation there and it will be OK.

Yes I am trying Grey Area this time, going on Friday morning back Saturday morning no hotel needed, cheap flight, you cant beat it!

Great plan.
Its great that you can kip over the hotel. Grey Area isn't much to see. Its always very crowdy but the owners are very helpful and nice. They have a Volcano vaporizer there. You can try it! -
While it's frowned upon to walk down the street toking, much like walking down your hometown street throwing back a beer, you can find many coffeeshops that offer outdoor seating. Homegrown Fantasy and Dutch Flowers are two that come immediately to mind. HF is large, has great selection, pleasant staff, and is located on NZ Voorburgwal right across the street from the Church of Scientology! Dutch Flower is near the Spui on the Singel and is very small. I've been to Amsterdam a few times and have always bought way too much; gotta experiment and compare, you know! As a result I was always smoking someplaces else's weed, wherever I went. I did do as advised and bought a drink or two in each place I decided to spend some time. They are in business and I want to make sure they stay in business. There are some bars that allow toking, but ask first or stumble next door/down the street to the next coffeeshop.

The Bulldog in Leidseplein allows smoking cannabis and hash in the bar area, and the atmosphere there is usually quite upbeat and there seems to always be good music playing. It is one of the few bars I have found in A'dam that allow you to smoke weed. Another is the Rookies, just down the street around the Pancake Corner, however I prefer the environment at the Bulldog.
